Ladies, how much are you willing to spend on a handbag? While some draw the line at a couple hundred bucks, others may be more willing to splurge – but would you pay six figures?
Hermes Birkin bags are among the most coveted handbags in the world, with the average price tag at around $10,000. This may seem steep to most, but what about the crocodile skin bag with 18-carat white gold clasps and 245 studded diamonds expected to break the previous record of over $200,000? Described as “the rares and most desirable handbag in the world,” this particular Birkin will be sold at Heritage Auction in Beverly Hills September 23.
Birkin bags were introduced in 1984, and were named after film actress Jane Birkin. They were an instant hit, and remain so to the rich and famous today. The previous record for highest price paid for a Birkin bag was $203,150 for a red model in 2011.
