Planning on purchasing a diamond for that special someone this holiday? The American Gem Society offers some tips for finding the perfect diamond.
Choose a reliable jeweler. You wouldn’t purchase a car from a shady dealer, would you? The same goes for diamonds. The more trustworthy the jeweler seems, the more likely you are to find a quality diamond that your significant other, relative or friend will cherish forever. You will feel more confident walking out the door.
Use your senses (and common sense). While it may be tempting to buy a diamond online for the convenience, it always helps to see it up close and have the ability to touch it. A diamond may look nice on the computer screen, but could look very different in person.
Get good grades. Do not purchase a diamond that does not have a grading report from a reputable laboratory. These laboratories exist for you, the consumer, so you know everything there is to know about the gem you are purchasing. Tell the jeweler: no grade, no purchase.
