An unidentified European buyer just came into possession of Pope Francis’ Harley-Davidson motorcycle by paying 20 times more than the auction pre-sale price.
Bonhams auction house in Paris set the pre-sale price for the 1,585 cc Dyna Super Glide at $16,000. The bike, donated to the Pope last year by Willie Davidson, the grandson of the company’s co-founder, was sold for $327,000. Also sold was a Harley-Davidson leather jacket signed by Pope Francis at a price of $77,485 plus fees.
The Pope never rode the motorcycle, but like the leather jacket, it displays his signature. He gave it to a Catholic charity, which then arranged the auction.
