A large blue diamond was discovered at the Cullinan mine near Pretoria, South Africa.
The 29.6 carat diamond is expected to be worth tens of millions of dollars, as blue diamonds are one of the most coveted diamond colors. In addition, a colored diamond appears about once every 10,000 mined.
The mine has been operating for over 100 years, and is known for its famous diamonds, including the Cullinan diamond – a diamond of 3,106 carats! This gem will need to be cut and inspected for any flaws.
Another blue diamond found at Cullinan was sold last year for $16.9 millions, and this new diamond may fetch even more. We will have to wait and see!
