Common Coin Collection Themes

You may find you have discovered you have a unique coin here or there and would like to determine if it is valuable or not you can visit coin buyers in Chicago at Chicago Gold Gallery, we’re knowledgeable about the sets, like Type Sets, Roll Sets, Date sets as well as individual coins.
If you find yourself with a coin collection that you no longer want, our coin buyers in Chicago will gladly buy your collection from you. While it is not necessary to have full sets or groupings there can be a premium for some full complete sets. Here are some general groupings that your coins may be in.

Collections

United States Type sets from the late 1790’s, 1800’s and early/Mid 1900’s are the best sets and are far more valuable than a bunch of foreign coin sets.

Country Collections

Most Foreign coins typically are not very valuable beyond their intrinsic gold and silver content. There are some very rare and valuable foreign coins but typically most are not even the ones from the early 1800’s.
If you’re an avid coin collector, you may have focused your search within a certain country. It’s also popular to collect coins from your country of origin, or maybe you’ve spent time obtaining a coin from every country that’s ever issued one.

Year Collections

This may be one of the most practical ways to go about building your coin collection, as the majority of coin albums sort their inventory by year. For example, if you have a Memorial Lincoln Cent for every year it was in existence, from 1959 to 2008 these may be interesting and fun but are usually for the hobbyist and not for investment or valuable. There are some Lincoln Cents from 1909 to the 1930’s that will have collectible value.
Your collection may consist of different examples of design variants from a particular country or region. For example, you may focus on a particular coin design such as collecting coins that have holes in the middle or coins that are different shapes than a circle. These are only a few examples of the things our coin buyers in Chicago see. If you have a coin collection and want to learn about how much it could be worth, call us or visit us today!

Customer Testimonial

Had a Great Experience

I have dealt in coins and metals since the 80s. Had dealings with many dealers. Got scammed by a few. Chicago Gold is the only one I would recommend to my family or friends. Have your valuables appraised by them before you sell.

I'll be back

Cashed in some silver coins and received a very fair exchange. Joe and Chris, were very friendly, and comfortable to deal with. Came back with some jewelry, and received a rough appraisal...again no pressure.
