The Koh-i-Noor Diamond: Priceless “Mountain of Light”

Diamonds are one of the most beautiful and coveted creations nature has to offer. They are the hardest of all substances, and are sold in a wide variety of colors, levels of clarity, cuts, and sizes. All these characteristics combine to determine a diamond’s value, with some being so large and exquisite, they are priced well above what most people could ever afford.

One such gem is the Koh-i-Noor, or “mountain of light”, diamond. Many people wonder, “How much is the Koh-I-Noor worth?” But this is an impossible question to answer. While it is among the most expensive diamonds in the world, his specimen is so rare and perfect, it’s beyond value, making it truly priceless.

Where is the Koh-I-Noor Diamond Today?

Its original size has been said to be 793 carats, with a more recent weight of 191 carats when it existed as a lumpy, Mughal-cut stone. Garrard of London, the royal jeweler, reduced the size to 105.6 carats when he recut the stone to enhance its fire and brilliance into a shallow oval brilliant, which now resides front and center in the British Crown Jewels.

According to legend, the Koh-i-Noor originated in India during the 11th or 12th century, but was later stolen by the British during the Anglo Sikh \wars in the early 1800s. Its true history is obscure, having gone through centuries of wars and bloodshed, making it an even more interesting piece. For more than 100 years now, the Koh-i-Noor has remained with the British royal family.

    Had a Great Experience

I have dealt in coins and metals since the 80s. Had dealings with many dealers. Got scammed by a few. Chicago Gold is the only one I would recommend to my family or friends. Have your valuables appraised by them before you sell.

    I'll be back

Cashed in some silver coins and received a very fair exchange. Joe and Chris, were very friendly, and comfortable to deal with. Came back with some jewelry, and received a rough appraisal...again no pressure.
